| Abstract | Neste trabalho campos de ventos e de ondas produzidos por modelos numéricos para o período fevereiro de 1997 a janeiro de 2004 foram utilizados para caracterizar o regime de ondas e de ventos no Oceano Índico Noroeste, e ao largo do litoral oeste da Índia. Os resultados mostram que durante o mês de julho são obtidos os maiores valores de altura significativa, com propagação para o litoral oeste da Índia, respondendo aos ventos das monções. Uma análise mais detalhada revelou que pode haver contribuição de energia de ondas gerada no hemisfério sul para intensificar ainda mais as ondas durante as monções. Durante os meses em que as monções não ocorrem, ciclones e anticiclones podem se desenvolver e intensificar ao largo do litoral oeste da costa da Índia, provocando agitações marítimas durante períodos curtos. ABSTRACT: In this study surface wind fields and waves produced by numerical models in the period 1997 February to 2004 January were used to define the wind and wave features in the Northwest Indian Ocean and offshore West India. The results show greater values of significant wave height occurring during July propagating towards the western Indian littoral in response to the monsoon. A careful analysis revealed meaningful energy generated in the South Hemisphere, contributing to enhance the significant wave height in the western India. During the period without northeasterly wind, cyclones and anticyclones developed offshore the India coastline, causing occurrence of short periods of high wave. |
